Ethics and Editorial Independence

Readers should be able to understand who is behind our content and what interests may have shaped it. These principles guide our editors, contributors, and commercial collaborations.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial team decides what we cover independently. Commercial relationships must not buy favorable editorial coverage, an independent endorsement, or the omission of relevant facts. We base our decisions on evidence, relevance, and value to readers.

Sponsored Content and Paid Placements

We may publish sponsored content and paid placements. We clearly label them, for example as Sponsored, and identify the commercial relationship. We do not present paid coverage as an independent editorial choice.

Commercial partners may give input on agreed sponsored content. That content must still be accurate and clearly labelled. Sponsoring a piece does not give a partner control over our other coverage.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors and contributors should tell us about financial or personal relationships that could influence their coverage.

We disclose relevant conflicts to readers. If disclosure is not enough to address a conflict, we ask someone else to handle the story or decide not to publish it.

Expert Contributions and Company Claims

Contributors are welcome to share their professional experience, but readers must be able to see their relevant affiliations. We do not disguise advertising as expert advice. We identify the source of company claims, testimonials, and supplied research, and assess them critically.

Partnerships and Related Projects

We disclose relevant connections to our media partnerships, events, awards, and other projects when covering them. Taking part in one of these activities is not independent evidence of a company's or individual's quality.

Fairness and Respect

We aim to describe people and their views accurately and treat them with respect. Before publishing serious allegations, we give those concerned a reasonable opportunity to respond.
