Streamline AI, an AI-driven intake and matter management platform purpose-built for in-house legal teams, has announced a total of $14 million in funding, following the close of an $8.6 million Series A round. The round was led by Blumberg Capital with support from Tribeca Venture Partners, Acronym Venture Capital, Great Oaks Venture Capital, and Scribble Ventures. Legal teams at companies including Gusto, 8x8, Acorns, and Bloom Energy rely on Streamline AI. The fresh capital will be used to drive market expansion amid growing demand from mid-market and enterprise legal departments grappling with manual workflows and limited internal resources.
The legal tech industry saw $4.98 billion in global funding in 2024, with AI driving advancements in automation, compliance, and efficiency. Corporate legal departments — especially those in high-growth and regulated sectors — face mounting workloads and limited capacity. As a result, many legal teams are experiencing increased reliance on outsourcing, operational delays, and internal burnout.
Streamline AI was founded in 2020 by Kathy Zhu, a former DoorDash attorney, and Julian Wimbush, previously a product leader at Google. The company was born out of challenges encountered during DoorDash’s rapid growth phase, where manual legal intake systems became a critical bottleneck.
"I witnessed firsthand how manual intake and workflow processes can cripple even the most talented legal teams," said Kathy Zhu, CEO and co-founder of Streamline AI. "This funding will accelerate our mission to eliminate the frustrations and inefficiencies that plague in-house legal departments. We've spoken to hundreds of attorneys over the past year and the takeaway is clear: in-house teams desperately need to move away from emails and spreadsheets to a centralized system purpose-built for legal workflows. Legal should be viewed as a revenue-enabler, not a cost-center."
Streamline AI distinguishes itself from generic workflow tools by offering a platform engineered specifically for the intricacies of legal operations. The platform’s AI features include automated extraction and structuring of intake information from emails, along with a conversational assistant to manage repetitive inquiries, allowing attorneys to focus on high-value tasks. Positioned as the central hub and system of record, the platform aims to redefine legal operations.
"Streamline has become a valued technology partner for 8x8, helping us achieve our vision of a more agile Legal team," said Ilan Hornstein, Global Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at 8x8 (Nasdaq: EGHT). "Streamline gives visibility and empowers our team with the clear insights needed to be highly responsive and build stronger trust with Sales, Finance and other internal partners. It was a fast setup and we quickly began saving 30 minutes to an hour on every request, delivering real efficiency and enhancing Legal's reputation across the business."
Currently supporting more than 500 in-house attorneys, Streamline AI is delivering measurable efficiency gains: a 40–50% reduction in request turnaround times, 25% faster response times, and actionable insights that uncover bottlenecks in legal workflows. Recent product developments have expanded the platform beyond intake to include matter management, cross-functional collaboration, knowledge management powered by AI, document generation, and automated reminders. Deep integrations have been established with leading legal tools, including a two-way integration with Ironclad, as well as an API for tailored configurations.
"Kathy, Julian and team bring an exceptional, inside-out understanding of how legal teams operate - and they've translated that into a platform that's driving real results for customers today," said Pramod Gosavi, Sr. Principal at Blumberg Capital and Streamline AI board member. "The team's customer-first approach, combined with early traction from forward-thinking legal teams, puts them in a powerful position to define the future of how modern in-house legal departments operate."
