SUSE, a global enterprise open source solutions provider, announced the acquisition of Losant, an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform, expanding its Edge portfolio from infrastructure to full-stack industrial automation. The deal strengthens SUSE’s Edge strategy by extending capabilities from Near and Far Edge to the Tiny Edge, enabling a unified open process automation platform that connects physical operations with real-time data, AI, and enterprise systems.
Expanding from Edge Infrastructure to Full-Stack IIoT
The acquisition positions SUSE as a full-stack Industrial IoT provider, combining edge infrastructure, device orchestration, data management, and application enablement. With Losant integrated into SUSE Edge, organizations can modernize industrial operations, reduce silos, and move from data collection to actionable insight faster while maintaining interoperability and avoiding vendor lock-in. SUSE also plans to open source Losant technology to accelerate standardization and collaboration across industrial ecosystems.
“The acquisition of Losant transforms SUSE from an edge infrastructure provider to a full-stack Industrial IoT leader. It allows us to deliver to customers the part of the Edge where the digital world directly meets the physical one, where machines, environments, and people interact in real time, and where AI can be meaningfully deployed to gain better insight into real-world processes,” said general manager of SUSE Edge, Keith Basil. “With Losant, we will move faster from infrastructure to operational outcomes combining our Edge portfolio and products like SUSE AI, allowing deeper collaboration with industrial partners, equipment manufacturers and industrial open source communities as the ecosystem continues to evolve.”
“Joining forces with SUSE is the natural next step for Losant. Combining our low-code Industrial Internet of Things platform with SUSE’s 30 plus years of experience in enterprise software will provide customers with stability and interoperability, allowing us to accelerate our mission to help IT leaders turn complex data into immediate operational value,” said Charlie Key, CEO of Losant. “We are excited to bring our Tiny Edge capabilities to a much larger stage.”
Connecting Operational Technology with Enterprise Systems
The combined portfolio enables manufacturers and asset-intensive industries to connect sensors, controllers, and production systems with enterprise analytics and AI-driven workflows. Use cases include real-time equipment monitoring, automated maintenance triggers, and quality control at the Edge, reducing operational complexity and accelerating digital transformation.
