Key Takeaways:

  • TidalSense raised $19M to expand its AI-powered COPD diagnostic platform.
  • N-Tidal Diagnose enables faster COPD detection using normal breathing instead of spirometry.
  • Funding will support international expansion, new respiratory diagnostics, and team growth.

TidalSense, a health technology company developing AI-powered respiratory diagnostics, raised $19 million to accelerate commercialization across the UK and Europe and support expansion into the U.S. The round included Cross-Border Impact Ventures, BGF, Airstream Capital and Foresight Group. The funding will also support platform development for additional respiratory conditions, including asthma.

Transforming COPD Diagnosis

The company's N-Tidal Diagnose device analyzes a patient's normal breathing for 75 seconds using AI-powered capnogram analysis to detect chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The technology replaces traditional spirometry with a faster test that requires minimal training and enables healthcare professionals to examine significantly more patients per hour.

Dr Ameera Patel, CEO of TidalSense, said: "Respiratory disease has been neglected by governments and health systems for years, often overshadowed by cancer and cardiovascular disease, even though it affects one in five people. That's finally starting to change. The World Health Organization now recognises COPD as a global health priority, and it's about time. Part of the problem has always been how we talk about it: COPD is widely seen as a smoker's disease, but a quarter of cases come from air pollution and the biomass fuel millions still cook with every day.

Expanding Access to Respiratory Care

N-Tidal Diagnose became the first non-spirometry AI diagnostic device to receive a CE mark under the EU MDR for COPD and is already deployed across multiple NHS organizations. The platform has been trained on more than 2.5 million patient breaths and achieved over 90% diagnostic performance during post-market validation.
