Key Takeaways:

  • NVIDIA has announced plans to invest in five UK startups: Boltz, Foresight, Hiverge, Prima Mente and Riverlane.
  • The companies develop technologies across AI-driven drug discovery, infrastructure planning, algorithm optimisation, computational biology and quantum computing.
  • NVIDIA is also expanding its UK partnerships in healthcare, financial services and climate technology, alongside a separate $250 million compute commitment for AI safety and security research.

NVIDIA has announced plans to invest in five UK technology startups as part of its broader efforts to support the country’s AI and quantum computing ecosystem.

The companies include London-based Boltz, Foresight and Prima Mente, alongside Cambridge-based Hiverge and Riverlane. NVIDIA has not disclosed the planned investment amounts, ownership stakes or transaction timelines. The announcement also outlines new collaborations involving AI infrastructure, healthcare, financial services and climate technology.

Five UK Startups Selected for Investment

The five companies operate across different areas of AI and advanced computing.

Boltz, a London-based startup founded by MIT researchers, develops biomolecular AI models and agents that help scientists predict molecular structures and interactions and design potential new medicines.

Foresight, also based in London, provides technology that helps operators of major infrastructure projects, including hyperscale data centres, forecast completion dates, identify risks and improve project planning.

Hiverge, a Cambridge-based startup founded by researchers from Google DeepMind and the University of Cambridge, develops an AI discovery engine that automatically generates and optimises algorithms. Its applications include accelerating AI training and improving logistics planning.

Prima Mente, a London-based AI biology startup, builds biological foundation models to study complex diseases and identify potential therapeutic targets. Its initial research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Riverlane, based in Cambridge, develops quantum error correction hardware and software designed to improve the reliability of quantum computers. Its technology supports multiple qubit architectures and focuses on correcting errors during quantum computations.

The announcement adds to NVIDIA’s existing investments in UK technology companies, including Basecamp Research, Ineffable Intelligence, Synthesia and Wayve.

Expanding AI Infrastructure and Industry Partnerships

Beyond the planned investments, NVIDIA is expanding its collaborations with UK organisations developing and deploying AI across different industries. In healthcare, the company highlighted work involving OneAdvanced, Heidi, Speechmatics and Apian, covering applications such as medical AI assistants and hospital robotics. Financial institutions and technology companies, including LSEG, Revolut, Lloyds Banking Group, Starling Bank, NatWest and Modulr, are also developing or deploying AI systems using NVIDIA technologies.

The company has also joined the Earthshot Prize as a Global Alliance Founding Partner, providing computing resources and technical expertise to organisations working on climate and sustainability solutions. In the energy sector, Fuse Energy is using NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra infrastructure to support AI-powered customer services for more than 450,000 UK households.

Quantum computing is another area of collaboration, with Riverlane working alongside NVIDIA on GPU-accelerated quantum error correction workflows. These include technology designed to accelerate decoder recalibration as quantum hardware conditions change.

According to NVIDIA, more than 3,100 UK companies currently participate in its Inception programme, which provides startups with technical resources and support for developing AI and accelerated computing technologies. The latest announcement builds on these existing relationships while extending NVIDIA’s involvement in emerging UK companies working across AI, scientific computing and quantum technologies.
