Chameleon Technology today announces the launch of a new wireless Energy Clamp designed to give businesses real-time visibility into electricity consumption from individual appliances and high-demand devices.
As demand on the UK’s electrical grid continues to evolve, with electric vehicles, heat pumps and battery storage systems changing historical usage patterns, understanding device-level energy use is becoming essential for managing costs and optimising performance. Traditional energy monitoring options often cannot isolate consumption from specific appliances, making it difficult to identify savings opportunities, or participate effectively in dynamic tariffs.
How the Device Works
To help users better understand and manage these changes, Chameleon Technology’s new battery-powered Energy Clamp enables granular monitoring of current draw from high-usage devices or appliances.
The wireless CT clamp clips directly onto an device’s input or live wire and connects wirelessly to any Zigbee-powered platform to monitor usage. Chameleon’s Gateway Business device is an ideal pairing partner, allowing real-time data visualisation without requiring engineer installation or a dedicated power supply for the Energy Clamp.
Accuracy and Benefits
Designed to help monitor power draw, support smarter participation in dynamic tariffs and automation workflows, it has an incredible measurement accuracy within 1% and to 0.01 amp granularity.
Kyle Brown, Chief Commercial Officer at Chameleon Technology, said: “As the UK continues to push forward with electrification, and energy systems become more decentralised, understanding device-level electricity demand is becoming essential. EV charging, electrified heating and distributed generation are changing how and when power is used. Tools that make this data accessible in real time can help households and organisations optimise usage, automate energy decisions and reduce costs.”
