UK healthcare technology company, Semble, today launches its CQC Companion, an online toolkit designed to help private healthcare providers maintain compliance and navigate Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections with confidence.
Growing Demand and Compliance Challenges
Rising patient demand is driving more clinicians to enter private practice, with over half of UK patients now expecting to self-fund at least part of their care in the year ahead. With nearly all private UK clinics subject to CQC regulation, ensuring readiness for inspections has become an increasing challenge. To help clinics prepare for the regulation, Semble’s CQC Companion offers step-by-step guidance spanning registration, inspection preparation, and embedding compliance into everyday clinic operations.
Expert-Led Guidance and Practical Insights
Developed in collaboration with Gabi Ashton, a CQC Compliance Specialist, and Dr Jonathan Andrews, an NHS and private doctor and experienced CQC Compliance Consultant, the toolkit brings together practical insight to demystify the CQC process, providing actionable guidance that is grounded in real clinic and inspection experience.
Step-by-Step Preparation for Inspections
It offers private healthcare providers a clear roadmap to prepare for inspection day with an hour-by-hour breakdown from a former inspector, alongside key tips for a smooth registration process and advice on self-auditing to help clinics stay compliant and confident at every stage. It also features practical resources, including an online guide with over one hundred check points broken down into nine segments. This checklist progresses with clinicians as they move through their private practice journey.
Dr Jonathan Andrews, NHS & Private Doctor, Medical Director and Freelance CQC Advisor, commented: “CQC readiness isn’t something that happens overnight. For many clinics, particularly those entering private practice for the first time, preparing for a CQC inspection can feel unfamiliar. Providers may deliver excellent clinical care but be less certain as to how that translates into the governance and documentation inspectors expect. Accessible guidance like Semble’s CQC Companion will help teams approach inspections with greater clarity and confidence.”
Reducing Stress for Healthcare Teams
Launched in line with Stress Awareness Month, the CQC Companion offers a timely resource for healthcare teams under increasing operational pressure. A study found that 66% of clinicians work outside scheduled hours most days, reporting burnout as a result of their clinical duties. Historically, CQC registration and inspections have been a notorious additional source of stress for providers, with unclear assessment expectations and inconsistent processes adding to the burden. While the CQC has been improving these processes, the support of the CQC Companion will help teams manage compliance efficiently, turning it from a source of stress into a structured, manageable process.
Making Compliance More Manageable
Jenny Williams, Senior Clinical Product Manager at Semble, said: “As a former GP, I’ve seen first-hand the pressure healthcare professionals face when it comes to navigating CQC compliance. It can be time-consuming, difficult to interpret and a real source of stress. At Semble, healthcare professionals we speak to every day are still trying to make sense of a process that often feels overwhelming.”
“The CQC Companion is designed to make that process clearer and more manageable, turning complex regulations into practical, actionable guidance. Ultimately, our goal is to make compliance feel manageable, so providers spend less time deciphering compliance requirements and more time with patients.”
Supporting Private Practice Growth
The CQC Companion forms part of Semble’s broader expert-led toolkit supporting clinicians entering private practice and is now available here. Further guidance will also be shared in an upcoming Semble Insights webinar, ‘Starting strong: A practical guide to CQC registration for private practices’ on 21st May. Register here.
