Seprify, a Swiss bio-materials company developing high-performance cellulose-based ingredients for industrial applications, announced transition of its cellulose platform from pilot validation to procurement-ready industrial supply. The milestone enables manufacturers to move beyond testing toward consistent sourcing and long-term commercial agreements, addressing demand for bio-based alternatives to high-emission materials such as titanium dioxide.
Seprify also secured €13.4 million (CHF 12.25 million) in Series A funding from strategic and financial investors experienced in industrial scale-up. The round includes participation from Inter IKEA Group, Una Terra Early Growth Fund, Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB), Cambridge Enterprise Ventures, Kickfund, and additional circular-economy investors.
Industrial Platform Development
Seprify’s cellulose platform reached Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 7–9 with validation through collaboration with industry partners supported by Inter IKEA Group. The platform currently progresses through supplier qualification, procurement discussions, and early commercial contracts across cosmetics and personal care, food and pet food, and coatings sectors. Engagement includes more than 100 customer organizations ranging from product evaluation to early supply agreements.
Scaling Production
New funding will support expansion of commercial production to hundreds of tonnes annually through manufacturing partners, accelerate market rollout across priority industries, and advance engineering work for larger industrial capacity. The transition enables customers to move from pilot testing to stable procurement processes and long-term sourcing strategies.
Lukas Schertel, Co-founder & CEO of Seprify, said: “This funding enables us to focus on execution and scale. Our immediate priority is delivering consistent quality and reliable supply, meeting the operational standards large industrial customers require. In the near term, that means supporting cosmetics and personal care, including suncare, as well as food and pet food. We are also scaling for higher-volume applications such as coatings, inks and printed electronics, reflecting the broader potential of our cellulose platform.”
Product Applications
Seprify’s technology combines proprietary processing expertise, application development, and intellectual property across production methods and end-use materials. Flagship products include SilvaLuma™, a cellulose-based SPF booster designed for cosmetics and personal care, and SilvaAlba™, a food-grade whitening solution positioned as a scalable alternative to titanium dioxide.
