Carbon Direct, founded in 2020 to advance science-based carbon management, announced the acquisition of Pachama, a leading provider of digital tools ensuring integrity in the voluntary carbon market (VCM). Pachama’s platform for forest carbon project monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) will become part of Carbon Direct, supporting the company’s mission to enhance transparency and quality in carbon projects.
Pachama’s technology brings rigor and credibility to forest carbon initiatives. The alignment of both organizations in scientific excellence and innovation creates a strong foundation for accelerating progress in climate action.
Through this acquisition, Carbon Direct will:
- Strengthen quality and integrity across the VCM with data-driven evaluation.
- Enhance transparency through digital MRV tools and expert advisory insights.
- Expand access to scalable, nature-based carbon solutions to meet growing global demand.
As Diego Saez Gil, Pachama’s co-founder and CEO, said, “We're incredibly proud of what the team at Pachama has built. Our technology brings transparency and integrity to forest carbon projects at scale. As we explored options for our next chapter, Carbon Direct stood out for its unwavering commitment to scientific rigor, its reputation as the most trusted voice in carbon management, and its rapid growth. This is the coming together of two mission-driven teams that can accelerate impact far beyond what either could achieve alone. I'm excited to see the technology of Pachama reach new markets as part of a company that shares our dedication to quality and our vision for scaling equitable climate solutions.”
Carbon Direct welcomes Diego Saez Gil and the Pachama team, marking a significant step toward a more transparent and data-driven carbon market.
