Key Takeaways:

  • Companion.energy raised €7.8M in a seed round.
  • Platform helps enterprises cut energy costs by 10–30%.
  • Funding will support product development and European expansion.

Companion.energy, a Belgium-based software company helping enterprises manage and optimize energy operations in real time, has secured €7.8 million in seed funding. The round was led by Realyze Ventures and Pi Labs, with participation from Asterion Ventures and existing investors.

Growing Demand for Real-Time Energy Management

Over the past year, Companion.energy increased revenue and customer numbers tenfold, surpassing €1 million in annual recurring revenue. The company now supports more than 30 enterprise customers across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, including TotalEnergies, KPN, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Interparking, and Proximus Group.

The platform manages more than 2 TWh of annual energy consumption and production, representing around €500 million in energy spending and revenues. More than 200 MW of distributed assets, including solar, wind, batteries, EV charging infrastructure, and e-boilers, are currently connected to the system.

Optimizing Energy Decisions with AI

Companion.energy combines energy contracts, operational systems, and distributed assets into a single platform that forecasts demand, models market exposure, and automates energy decisions in real time. Customers use the platform to reduce energy costs by 10 – 30% while improving asset performance and procurement efficiency.

European energy markets are undergoing a structural shift. As penetration of renewables increases and industrial demand becomes more electrified, electricity markets are becoming significantly more volatile and operationally complex. Energy prices that once moved seasonally now fluctuate in real time. At the same time, enterprises are deploying growing fleets of batteries, solar installations, EV charging infrastructure and electrified industrial systems. Most companies still manage this environment through fragmented tooling, spreadsheets and static procurement processes but they need a system that runs and optimises energy operations continuously,” said Thomas Vyncke, co-founder of Companion.energy.

Expansion Across Europe

The new funding will be used to enhance the platform’s multi-asset and multi-market optimization capabilities while supporting commercial expansion across Europe, starting with Germany and Spain.

We started Companion because we believed the energy transition would force every large industrial enterprise to manage energy actively, and that they would not be able to do that with spreadsheets and quarterly check-ins. The work of the next decade is to give those teams software that can keep up. This round lets us bring that software to many more enterprises, and help them turn their energy from a competitiveness risk into a competitive advantage,” said Jonas Verstraeten, co-founder of Companion.energy.
