  • A significant share of supported funding targets high-integrity removals and biodiversity projects.

Pinwheel, the fast-growing corporate carbon and biodiversity platform, has today announced it has been nominated for The 2026 Earthshot Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious environmental awards.

The nomination follows 458% compound growth over the past two years for Pinwheel, reflecting accelerated demand from businesses seeking credible, board-approved climate strategies that deliver commercial value beyond traditional carbon offsetting.

Shifting enterprise climate action

The Earthshot Prize, founded by Prince William, recognises organisations developing scalable innovations to repair and regenerate the planet. Pinwheel’s nomination highlights the growing shift among enterprises from compensation-led carbon programmes toward science-led climate and nature action that delivers measurable environmental and business value. Pinwheel uses behavioural science to unlock commercial and brand value from climate investments, helping companies build credible business cases for action.

The company works with corporates across the globe to design beyond-value-chain mitigation programmes that align with evolving standards and reporting requirements, integrate carbon and biodiversity action, and secure board-level alignment. It also partners with leading climate and nature organisations, including Fauna & Flora, the world’s oldest wildlife conservation NGO, to ensure high-integrity project delivery. Pinwheel’s team combines expertise from sustainability, government, and commercial leadership to build board-ready investment cases and guide implementation.

Across Pinwheel-supported portfolios, 37% of carbon funding is directed to durable and nature-based removals, compared with a market average of just under 25%. Almost two thirds (64%) of total funding is allocated to removals or the destruction or avoidance of powerful super-pollutants, while 20% supports biodiversity and ecosystem-led projects, demonstrating a shift from volume-based offsetting to high-integrity climate action.

Gavin Sheppard, CEO at Pinwheel, commented: “Being nominated for The Earthshot Prize is a significant milestone for our team and a validation of the shift we’re seeing in the market. Enterprises are moving rapidly beyond offsetting and compliance toward science-led climate and nature strategies that deliver measurable impact and long-term business value.

Pinwheel’s project selection is informed by leading scientific frameworks and uses established registries to ensure impact claims are transparent, auditable and investment-grade. The company plans to scale its technology, carbon and biodiversity expertise and global footprint in 2026, including establishing a presence in Asia, as demand accelerates for high-integrity climate and biodiversity solutions.

Pinwheel will publish its annual analysis of global carbon markets in February. Learn more at pinwheel.earth.
