Redpine, a Swedish AI infrastructure startup building a platform for accessing premium non-public data, announced an $8 million seed round led by NordicNinja, with participation from Luminar Ventures and node.vc.
The funding will accelerate global expansion, product development, and growth of proprietary data partnerships, enabling access to high-value datasets across industries. Redpine is also expanding its team across engineering, data science, and go-to-market functions, supported by talent from companies such as Spotify, Zettle, and Lunar.
Solving the AI Data Gap
Founded in 2024, Redpine addresses a major limitation in AI development: only a small share of global data is accessible for training. The platform enables compliant access to premium, non-public datasets by partnering directly with content owners, improving data quality and creating new revenue streams for publishers.
“Redpine is building the infrastructure to enable the token-based agent economy to grow sustainably for all stakeholders. The opportunities in this space are endless and we see applications across clinical guidelines, case law, physical research, financial markets data, and quality human-created news,” said CEO Anders Hammarbäck.
Platform and Technology
Redpine offers a headless API platform that allows AI systems to query, evaluate, and access high-quality data in real time. Through its Model Context Protocol, AI agents retrieve relevant information and pay based on usage, ensuring both accuracy and compliance.
“We are building a scientific solution that addresses initial challenges and creates a solid access model for agentic data. As we saw with music, a piracy-based scraping economy is only transient - until a solid solution appears. Redpine is that solution,” said co-founder David Österdahl.
Market Opportunity
The growth of agentic AI is driving demand for reliable and legally compliant data. In sectors such as healthcare, law, and finance, data quality and provenance are critical, as errors can scale across automated systems.
“Agentic AI is only as good as the data it's trained on. Today, most of the world’s knowledge is still inaccessible to AI. Combined with an AI-native team that has a world-class track record of execution, this makes Redpine a foundational company for the agentic AI era,” said Marek Kiisa, General Partner at NordicNinja.
Redpine is already working with global partners, including Chegg, to expand access to high-quality data while ensuring fair compensation for content creators.
